The imaginative realms of bygone ages are explored in Uwe Henneken’s paintings, which are richly colored and alluring. Henneken crafts sceneries filled with amazing animals living in eons-old woods, beautiful alpine vistas, and enigmatic caverns by frequently drawing inspiration from fairy tales and German mythology. His depictions of mythological events offer hints of spiritual realms that have long since departed and cosmic other dimensions portrayed in vivid, pastel colours that frequently border on the comical and hallucinogenic.
Paintings by Henneken convey hallucinogenic, trance-induced extraterrestrial realms that weave together the natural world, the material world, the spiritual world, the past, and the present because she is interested in the relationship between creative and shamanic states of consciousness. Vibrant, multicolored, fantastical worlds created by the artist allow the visitor to explore the limitless possibilities of human imagination.
Uwe Henneken had solo exhibitions Kunsthalle Giessen, Giessen, Germany; Meyer Riegger, Karlsruhe, Germany; Galerie Gisela Capitain, Cologne, Germany; Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, UK; Andrew Kreps Gallery, New York, USA; and Kunstverein Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany, among others. He has had group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Bremen, Bremen, Germany; Sammlung Boros, Berlin, Germany; The Kunstpalais Erlangen, Erlangen, Germany; Carl Kostyál, Stockholm, SE; Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China; Vietmam Fine Arts Museum, Hanoi, Vietnam; Skulpturen-Triennale, Bingen, Germany; and Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany.
