information

rodolphe janssen is pleased to announce an online exhibition with new works by Gert & Uwe Tobias.

We initially intended to organize the show in Paris, at the kind invitation of Galerie Nathalie Obadia, during FIAC Art Week, but due to the new government restrictions across Europe, we were forced to cancel the project. However, we are glad to have installed the exhibition at the gallery during 24 hours and to now host the show online for the next 10 days.

Twin brothers Gert & Uwe Tobias have developed a collaborative practice, since the end of their studies in 2002. They work with a broad variety of media including woodcut prints, relief sculptures, typewriter drawings, watercolors, gouaches and ceramics. Their artistic practice is mainly influenced by their Romanian heritage and the local myths, costumes, handcrafts and vernacular motifs associated with this area. The Tobias brothers combine these biographic elements with motifs from popular culture, abstract art and contemporary graphic design. The result is a diverse, yet highly personalized oeuvre that fluctuates between archaic cultural mythology and contemporary visual culture.

Gert & Uwe Tobias (born in 1973 in Brasov, Romania) live and work in Cologne, Germany.
